About Founder David Roach

I first entered the field of filmmaking when I produced the feature film Sydney Byrd, Private Eye. Written and Directed by my brother Paul Rigne Roach and Executive Produced by Dr Mack Roach III. (People sort of referred to us as "The Roach Brothers).

We hosted several screenings in the bay area to promote the film Sydney Byrd, Private Eye.

Soon after, we were showcasing other films made by Bay Area Filmmakers. This ad hoc group became the Oakland Film Society.

After having the film selected and screened in other film festivals, in other ciities, we launched the 1st Oakland International Film Festival at the Grand Lake Theater in October of 2002.
