MISSION:
The mission of The Oakland Film Society is to utilize film to increase understanding of ourselves and the world we share.
In order to reach our mission WE MUST:
Support independent filmmakers with telling their stories.
Provide within Oakland a film industry that enables filmmakers to make a fair living in Oakland.
Promote diversity in our stories, and the communities they represent.
Realize moving images are worth more than a thousand still ones.
Teach filmmaking in all communities, including low-income communities.
Connect Oakland filmmakers to every country in the world.
Promote tourism in the City of Oakland through the Oakland International Film Festival.
Consider, utilizing abandoned buildings, empty office spaces, as possible locations for low-budget film productions.
Believe in ourselves.
