Feature film The Equinox, directed by Baayan Bakari screened opening night at the Grand Lake Theate in 2008. According to Baayan, The Equinox, took several years to produce. 2008,also witnessed a number of short films from Oakland filmmakers. Films like "My Worst Nightmare,"directed by Walon Bacon, showed how a small budget doesn't have to mean no special effects.

Robert Philipson's, Take the Gay Train, showed a hidden story of the Harlem Renaissance.
