Stop

STOP is a short film that will depict the reality of the deaths of young black men that come at the hands of other young black men. As the deplorable death rate continues to rise in our OWN communities, I wonder WHERE IS THE OUTRAGE? While criminal justice activists are properly enraged over the mass incarceration of black men, I hope for a movement that is also furious at the senseless violence that claims the lives of so many black men. Homicide remains the leading cause of death for black men between the ages of 15 and 34. STOP is one of my efforts to curb the violence. STORY- a young man exits his home in an urban neighborhood, while his great grandmother prays for his safety. As he glances down the street he notices another young man. He mumbles to himself, “…..that’s that cat I had beef with…,” and immediately runs towards him, yelling and threatening. The other young man turns and begins running and a wild chase ensues. Through the streets, past a park, into a tunnel the two boys sprint; one intent on surviving, the other intent on hurting, or even killing the other. The chase ends when the first young man finds the running on a basketball court. Without hesitation, the pursing teen pulls a gun and shoots the other young man in the back. As he walks closer to his victim, he snarls oblivious to his homicidal act. To be sure the victim is dead, he gruffly pulls him over……………….. and looks into the eyes of………himself.
