YOUTH JAIL CHRONICLES

SCREENS WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 14TH

Youth Jail Chronicles is a video project led by young middle school and high school students participating in the multimedia program at the Youth UpRising center in East Oakland. This piece is part of the Wisdom Project which brings together currently incarcerated men at San Quentin State Prison involved in a video production training program in dialogue with young people in East Oakland learning the same skills to release their energy in creative and transformative ways. Some of the men inside San Quentin are actually from East Oakland and many of the youth know people, whether family or friends, that are currently incarcerated. Together they must share and learn and generate the ideas, skills and media needed to establish the building blocks to re-frame the current narrative of crime and punishment in their communities and beyond.
